VegaLoop and your health

What VegaLoop is

VegaLoop tracks nutrition, activity, biometrics, and goals for general wellness. The Terms of Service state that VegaLoop is not a medical device, is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition, and nothing it shows is medical advice or a substitute for a qualified healthcare professional, trainer, or dietitian. Readiness levels, nutrition targets, insights, and suggestions are information to weigh with your own judgment. Consult a healthcare professional before changing your diet, exercise, or health regimen, and act on what VegaLoop shows at your own risk.

VegaLoop is also not a healthcare provider under HIPAA. It asks you not to upload medical records, diagnoses, or laboratory results it does not need; see Your privacy rights.

What the calorie target will never do

The daily target is calculated under fixed rules that keep you fuelled. They apply to every account.

RuleWhat it means for you
Energy never goes below your resting energyThe target cannot ask you to eat less than your body uses at rest.
Energy availability floorWhen your body fat is recorded, the target stays at or above 30 kcal per kilogram of fat-free mass after training, the threshold below which the research on low energy availability starts.
Fat never below 20 percent of energyIf the macros would not fit, the energy target rises rather than the fat falling.
Protein is held1.6 g per kilogram, 2.0 g during a loss goal, so a deficit comes from elsewhere.
Loss is cappedAt most 1 percent of body weight and 1 kg a week; gain at most 0.5 kg a week. A goal that asks for more is held to the safe rate, and the plan tells you the date it projects instead.
The deficit sits on light days onlyRest and easy days carry it; key, pre-fuel, and loading days carry none; no day carries more than 1,000 kcal. A hard day’s target is not reduced to make up the deficit.
The baseline moves slowlyAt most 100 kcal a week, so a new answer or scale reading changes the target gradually.
Each target names its ruleThe info icon on each target names the rule in use.

Turning a deficit off

A deficit exists only while a weight-loss goal is active. To eat at maintenance:

  • Do not start a weight-loss goal, or cancel the one you have from the Goals page.
  • Or switch to I set my own under Nutrition Targets in Settings and enter the number you and your clinician agreed. VegaLoop then adds training on top, applies no deficit, and never raises or lowers your number; where it would have said something else, the card tells you so.

Logging meals with no goal at all is fine. The tracker, the trends, and the streak work without one.

What has no special mode

VegaLoop has no settings for pregnancy, breastfeeding, a medical condition, a medication that affects appetite or heart rate, or recovery from an eating disorder. Its equations are general-population and athlete models, and its heart rate defaults are age estimates. If any of these apply to you:

  • Talk to your clinician or dietitian before using the calorie target, and use I set my own with the number they give you.
  • Treat readiness and the suggestion cards as one input among many. They are built from training load, sleep, and your check-in, not from your medical history.
  • Set your own max, resting, and threshold heart rate on your profile if you know them. The age-based default can be wrong for you.
  • If logging food makes things harder rather than easier, stop logging meals. Nothing on your account changes if you stop for a while.

Declining a suggestion

Readiness and suggestion cards are proposals you can decline. A session marked This is a race is never moved, eased, or dropped. Not today dismisses any suggestion and Undo reverses one you accepted. A program’s paces and loads are scaled from the level you set on your profile; if they feel wrong, change the level rather than push through.

When to stop and talk to someone

Stop training and seek medical advice if you have chest pain, unusual shortness of breath, dizziness, fainting, a resting heart rate or blood pressure reading far outside your normal, or if you are losing weight faster than you intended. VegaLoop does not measure any of that, and the readiness level is not a health check.

If you are struggling with food or body image, a clinician or a specialist helpline is the right place; VegaLoop’s support team can help with the app but is not able to give health advice.
